Where It Comes From

Emerald Bay is a single origin Ethiopian coffee, selected for its clarity, sweetness, and refined complexity. It is sourced from Konga Amederaro Station in Konga village, within the celebrated Yirgacheffe region of southern Ethiopia.

The station sits at around 2,000 metres above sea level and works with 1,890 smallholder farmers, whose farms are nourished by the Toracho River. Konga Amederaro is widely recognised for its exceptional quality, placing 7th in the inaugural Ethiopia Cup of Excellence and appearing on the final table of the Taste of Harvest competitions in both 2018 and 2019. This consistent recognition reflects strict quality control at every stage of production.

Farms in this region are small and typically located around the farmers’ homes, leading to the term “garden coffee.” These small plots, combined with generations of local knowledge, play a vital role in the character and quality of the coffee.

How It’s Made

The coffee grown in Konga is predominantly Jarc, an indigenous Ethiopian heirloom varietal. These heirloom types grow wild across Ethiopia and are prized for their aromatic complexity and expressive flavour potential.

Emerald Bay is naturally processed, with cherries dried slowly in the sun to allow sugars to concentrate within the fruit. The combination of high altitude (up to 2,200m in surrounding areas), fertile soils, and consistent rainfall supports slow cherry maturation, resulting in dense beans with layered sweetness.

Natural processing enhances fruit clarity while maintaining balance, producing a coffee that is vibrant yet clean rather than overly fermented or heavy.

How It Tastes

Emerald Bay is roasted in Berkshire with a focus on clarity, balance, and sweetness. Our roast profile is deliberately restrained, allowing the natural characteristics of the coffee to lead rather than being overshadowed by roast development.

In the cup, expect golden honey sweetness, ripe blueberry, and cacao nibs, supported by a clean acidity and a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. The fruit character is expressive but refined, with floral undertones and a gentle chocolate finish.

This is a coffee designed for those who enjoy bright, fruit-forward cups with elegance and precision, a standout Ethiopian that showcases both its origin and the care taken at every stage from farm to roast.
